How do I fix darkness?

Downloaded "reshade 1.1.0 with sweetfx 2.0.7z" from reshade.me

Got it working in Amnesia, but everything is too dark? If I set every effect to 0 and toggle it on and off everything looks the same (no changes), which is good. Once I enable SMAA (and nothing else) everything is too dark and I can't even see the black boxes when I set gamma to max in Amnesia's settings. I tried another game with only SMAA enabled and it was too dark also. Note: FXAA doesn't do this, just SMAA.

Can this be fixed without having to change my video card or monitor settings? Why is SMAA making everything so dark?

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, Radeon 5800 w/ Crimson 16.2.1 drivers

Tried "reshade 2.0.3f1.7z" today. Same results.

i know you mentioned it already but make sure all the shaders in ceejay.cfg are set to 0.
