Fake Volumetric Lightning

Will it be possible to fake volumetric Lightning with a depth based fog generator that only show fog if the pixels are bright enought ?

Just a thought i had while showering this morning.

Try playing with Adaptive Fog shader. It can give you a little bit of this feeling (while sadly removing a lot of contrast & looking pretty flat).
