all this effect does is causing over bright / dark brightness...?

Fake HDR, increased light brightness but not comparable to the current thing with 10+ bit monitors and HDR capability.

EDIT: Well I guess calling it fake isn't exactly correct.

For gaming earlier uses of "HDR" was mainly adaption between light and dark areas and dynamically adjusting brightness between the two.
(Basically simulates the eyes adapting from moving from a dark room to a bright outside area.)

Fake HDR, expanded light shine yet not practically identical to the present thing with 10+ piece screens and HDR capacity.

I only use it on remakes that brighten the image unlike it use to be. Ocarina of Time 3DS for example. The remake is bright and cheery. Using hdr on it make it look like it use to on the n64.
