Hi everyone,
I'm Surnoir. I've spent over 2,000 hours experimenting with ReShade, and I'd like to introduce HDR Preserve, a bridge shader for using SDR/sRGB effects in a game that already outputs HDR.
WHY I MADE IT
Some effects expect an SDR image and can produce incorrect colors or brightness when applied directly to HDR values. I wanted a way to give those effects the working image they expect while retaining the original HDR image as the starting point for the final output.
HOW IT WORKS
HDR Preserve saves the original HDR frame, prepares an SDR working copy for the effects placed between its two techniques, then transfers their changes back into the original HDR format.
Arrange the techniques in this order:
1. HDR Preserve - BEFORE SDR effects
2. Your effects configured for SDR/sRGB input
3. HDR Preserve - AFTER SDR effects
SUPPORTED FORMATS AND CONTROLS
- scRGB, HDR10/PQ and HLG.
- Manual custom linear HDR mode.
- Automatic format selection based on the presentation color space reported to ReShade, plus manual format and color-primary selection.
- Adjustable SDR working white, effect strength and an SDR working-image preview.
REQUIREMENTS AND COMPATIBILITY
ReShade 5.1 or newer, the standard ReShade.fxh include, and HDR already working in the game and display pipeline.
The effects inside the bridge must be configured for SDR/sRGB input. Keep native HDR-aware effects outside the pair unless they are explicitly configured for SDR input.
Compatibility depends on the game, graphics pipeline and individual effects. The shader does not enable HDR or convert an SDR game into native HDR. Keeping the original HDR frame separately also does not make arbitrary spatial or temporal effects lossless. If automatic detection gives the wrong result, select the known input format manually.
AVAILABILITY
HDR Preserve is available on Patreon for $3 as a one-time purchase. The download includes GS_HDRPreserve.fx and an English installation/settings guide. ReShade itself and third-party effects are not included.

Feedback and questions are welcome. If you report a compatibility issue, please include the game, graphics API, HDR format and effects used so I can understand the setup.
Thanks for reading!
