ReShade 6.6.0 repeatedly crashing mid-match in Dead by Daylight was created by nepoku
Hello, I’ve been running into repeated crashes with ReShade 6.6.0 while playing Dead by Daylight on Steam. The game runs perfectly fine without ReShade, I already tested that out so I know it’s not me or the game itself. But with 6.6.0 specifically, my game will either crash mid-match or right at the endgame screen. The error message is always the exact same:
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
0x00000275d193e470 dxgi_7ffeb6b80000
{0x0000000000000000} + 260397 bytes
dxgi_7ffeb6b80000 {0x0000000000000000} + 259592 bytes
dxgi_7ffeb6b80000 {0x0000000000000000} + 259037 bytes
kernel32 {0x0000000000000000} + 190679 bytes
ntdll {0x0000000000000000} + 36252 bytes
This only started happening since updating to 6.6.0.
Here's everything I've tried so far:
-> Reinstalling ReShade
-> Verifying Dead by Daylight’s game files
-> Launching with DX11 and DX12
-> And using different presets (I've tried both minimal and full shader lists) but no matter what I do, it still crashes.
So my question is:
is this a known issue with 6.6.0 and Dead by Daylight? And if so does anyone know a workaround or fix (like certain shader settings, config tweaks, or maybe just using an older version of ReShade)?
I’d really appreciate it if anyone could let me know.

Literally LOL, it’s happened to me so many times too. I’ve had to sit in queue for 30+ minutes only for it to just crash on me again. At this point, I’ve just been running custom matches as killer against bots to test whether my fixes are working or not glad to know that I'm not the only one experiencing this though.

I am currently experiencing this. Did you ever come across any fixes?

I can also confirm 6.6.0 crashes dbd but it only happens mid match which is strange or at the very end i suspect it has something to do with EAC but anyways 6.2.0 works just fine idk exactly when reshade stopped working on dbd so either test different versions or just use 6.2.0 idk but to download different versions. click download on reshades website and when it bring you to the page where it says click to download 6.6.0, right click the button and copy the link then paste it in your address bar and replace "ReShade_Setup_6.6.0.exe" with what ever version you want eg. "ReShade_Setup_6.2.0.exe" or "ReShade_Setup_6.5.0.exe" etc.

I ended up rolling back and can confirm that ReShade 6.5.1 is working perfectly fine with dbd. No crashes mid-match or at the endgame screen. I’d recommend giving 6.5.1 a shot (or testing other versions before 6.6.0) until a fix comes out.

Thanks for sharing your idea to roll back to 6.2. I too was crashing mid-game or after several minutes into a match. This was my first ever use of ReShade, and after hours of trying all kinds of stuff to stop the crashes, I eventually found this thread. I downloaded 6.2 using the method you describe and have now played 10 matches without a crash. I see now that someone else has posted a later version work (just not the latest two, including 6.6.)
Given the workaround we need to use to download older versions, it might be worth holding on to any versions that are stable on our systems. It seems like a slightly unofficial method and therefore could be withdrawn at any moment. I've seen this before in other areas of Computamatronica stuff.
If anyone cares, here is the Unreal Engine Crash report deets:
Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION 0x00000161e9d94d70 dxgi_7ff8c0ec0000 {0x0000000000000000} + 302034 bytes dxgi_7ff8c0ec0000 {0x0000000000000000} + 344826 bytes dxgi_7ff8c0ec0000 {0x0000000000000000} + 344269 bytes kernel32 {0x0000000000000000} + 95092 bytes ntdll {0x0000000000000000} + 314513 bytes

Was the Base (non-add on) version. Absolutely did try disabling the depth thing. tried that (and about 6 hours worth of other things 😂😂😂) to no avail.

Wish I saw your post before using 6.2 and not being bothered anymore to try your versions mentioned. I probably will in a day or tw when I recover from the marathon of trying to fix it myself.
