Reshade + MasterEffects -- Shaders not applied 8 months 1 week ago #1

Hi,

I used to use Reshade and MasterEffects with GW2 and it worked perfectly. Mostly minor stuff, curves and sharpening only. But ever since I switched to Windows 10, I can't get it to work anymore. I updated to the latest versions of Reshade and MasterEffects, and can run the game without any crash, but the shaders won't apply.

Here is the log, I hope it can help :

I can see a warning in there, but I don't understand enough about reshade to know if it could be causing my problem.

Thank you in advance for your help, don't hesitate to ask me anything if you think it might help, and I'll be sure to respond to you as soon as possible.

Doesn't look like that's the log from the game, unless "CoherentUI_Host.exe" is the game executable?
Cheers, crosire =)

That's indeed the exe name for Guild Wars 2, there's a couple of ways to get ReShade to work with that game depending on how you launch it. :)
(The actual GW2 exe file is more of a launcher for the auto updater and login screen.)

If you run the game without any additional command-line parameters to automatically log in and start at the game-screen then placing the ReShade folders and files at say "C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\" won't work however if you place them instead in "C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\bin64" (or just bin for the 32-bit client.) so they inject into CoherentUI_Host.exe rather than Gw2 / Gw2-64 .exe then it should work.

If you do use command-line parameters for auto starting the game instead of the launcher then yeah injecting into Gw2 / Gw2-64 .exe will work. :)
wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

Personally I only use " -autologin -bmp" (And sometimes -image to force update the game without starting it.) so I had the files placed in the bin folder and that worked without issue with ReShade32.dll (For the 32-bit / default client.) or ReShade64.dll (For the now stable 64-bit client.) named as D3D9.dll
(A while ago though GeDoSaTo started supporting 64-bit so now I use that instead as the game still uses DX9, I primarily use the SMAA effect and as a MMO depth buffer dependent effects like AO, DOF and such wouldn't work normally with ReShade so GeDo was enough for me for what I used it for.)

EDIT: Not sure how it works via the Mediator if you use that, I'm used to just copy/pasting the files over and managing it manually and that's enough for me so I have no experience with Mediator.

Reshade + MasterEffects -- Shaders not applied 8 months 1 week ago #4

Ok, so good news is, I know why the shaders wouldn't apply. Bad news is I'm back where I started with an application that won't launch. Let me explain.

After switching to windows 10, I did the same thing I did previously to install Reshade and MasterEffects, namely put the Reshade32.dll in the bin folder of GW2, rename it to d3d9.dll, and copy the Reshade.fx, MasterEffect.h and MasterEffect folder from the MasterEffects zip file.
Turns out, this doesn't work anymore, and the game won't launch. So why did I post this topic saying it launched but didn't apply the shaders? Because I'm an idiot. Turns out I used the Reshade32.dll with the 64 bit client, that's why the game launched but no effects applied.

So, I corrected my mistake and put the Reshade64.dll in the bin64, and for the sake of testing, the Reshade32 in the regular bin folder, to test out both clients. Neither won't load, which was the first result I obtained after I switched to windows 10 and tried to reinstall Reshade. Here is the log when trying to launch the 64 bit client:
