ReShade causing HUGE FPS drops randomly. Once it happens FPS will not go back up was created by steamin661
I use ReShade in pretty much every single game I play and have been for years now. The current game I am playing is Red Dead. Ive used ReShade in the past without issue in Red Dead, though recently I made a new install (both the game and ReShade) and started having issues with random FPS tanking. I will be playing and randomly the game will go from 100fps to low teens (10-15fps). And once the FPS drop happens, they stay down indefinetly. If I disable ReShade it will jump back to 100+ fps. Enable it and it goes back down to the teens. Only way to fix this is to restart the game.
Any idea why this is happening? I thought maybe it was certain effects, but no. I can disable ALL effect and the game will still be in low teens FPS. Only thing that fixes it is disabling Reshade all together or restarting the game.
It is a random occurrence. Sometimes it will happen after 30min other times I can play for hours without issues. Sometimes it will happen after I take a screenshot using reshade. etc.
Also, I am using the most recent version of ReShade (5.8.0). Maybe it has something to do with the most recent version?

Yeah, that is expected. Without ReShade I may be getting 110+ fps, with reshade is drops to 80fps etc. That is normal and expected. I am okay with that.
But Ill be playing and as mentioned, the game will just go from playable to all of the sudden drop to 10fps. And once it drops to 10fps, it stays there.
I have a 4080 and for the longest time didnt know what was causing this issue. ReShade never did that to me before so I was certain that wasnt the issue. But once I disable ReShade, everything went back to normal. I was very surprised that was the problem cause like I said, Ive used reshade for years and years now, never running into this issue.

Hey, I know this is old, but 2 years later, I am also still experiencing this issue. Have you fixed it? If so, how? I am using a 4090 and only running my games at 1440p. Games run at 100+ fps, turn reshade on, everything is fine. Random minutes (or hours) later, fps will drop to 10-15. Saving the game would fix the fps like, 6 times out of 10. If I just let it be, the fps goes back to normal, but it takes a random amount of time too. Sometimes it stays at 10-15fps for a whole minute or two, sometimes just a few seconds. Turning reshade off using a hotkey also works, I just check if fps is back to normal by turning it back on. If not, I disable it again. Rinse and repeat until fps is back to normal with reshade on.
