Hey Ioxa, I'm having a problem with this in 0.19.2. Not using 1.0 yet because I've seen problems reported. I'm also using framework version. How do I make the custom version you made me work with 19.2 without having all the errors?

I inserted the custom file in the effect ordering file this time because that's where everything else was and I'm getting these errors:

It's redefinition errors. Try including it in ReShade.fx, put it below #include "ReShade\EffectOrdering.cfg". And make sure there is a blank space below it or it won't work.

I made some changes to the blur passes in this shader to reduce the performance cost, results that were taking 11 or more passes in the current version are now being achieved in 2 or 3 passes (3 or 4 passes for bloom). I'm still making some adjustments and looking for ways to reduce GaussianBlur and Unsharpmask to 2 passes max and GaussianBloom to 3 passes max but it may be awhile before I can work on it again so I figured I'd upload what I have.

Download Gaussian Perfromance Test

The GaussQuality and GaussBloomQuality settings now go from 0 to 3 instead of 0 to 12. Setting to 1 is equivalent to 3, 2 is equivalent to 9, and 3 is equivalent to 12.

I made some more changes to this, mostly to the bloom. I reworked the brightpass to reduce banding, I actually haven't noticed any banding issues with this version.
The GaussThreshold is also much more accurate, setting it to something like 0.900 pretty much limits it to only the brightest of lights.
Also made some changes to BloomSigma, trying to come up with something that doesn't require additional passes. It seems to work pretty well but looks awful if GaussBloomQuality is less than 2, so I still need to do some work on that.
And I added one more level to the quality settings so they go 0-4 now. It's probably too blurry for GaussianBlur but it works well for bloom.

Download GaussForReShade+FrameworkPerf&BloomTest

To install it just merge the ReShade folder in the download with your existing ReShade folder and overwrite Gaussian.h. No need to replace the config file but setting GaussQuality and GaussBloomQuality to anything above 4 won't change anything.

I'm not sure what that error message means... There may be a problem with latest the gaussian.fx file I uploaded here although I'm not sure if it would cause the error you are getting. You could try using the one thats bundled with ReShade instead, hopefully it won't have the same issue. I'll also see if I have an opengl game I can try to recreate the error in.

Or you can see if this one works. I made a couple small changes but the settings should all work the same.

The same issue occurs if I use this file you linked me to. But it works as intended if I use the "vanilla 2.0 gauss" without any modifications there are no errors, except the low brightness issue. But that's ReShade's and not Gauss.

Gaussian.fx, line 312 - 330, 643 - 661 and 868 - 886. The variables are both "uniform" and "const" there. The ReShade FX compiler does not handle this correctly and outputs both specifiers in the GLSL code, but GLSL cannot handle more than one specifier on a variable. Remove the "uniform" from those and make them "static" (it doesn't make sense for a variable to be both constant and uniform). I'll add an error message to the ReShade FX compiler in the next version to make this clear.

What you are seeing is often referred to as a halo.

Unsharpmask, and as far as I know, all sharpening effects, work by blurring a copy of the original image and then subtracting the blurred image from the original, whats left is the difference between the two. The difference is then added to the original image to highlight the differences. There is a little more involved than this but this is the gist of it.

Unsharpmask uses a fairly large blur radius so a lot of those dark pixels in the image you posted are being blurred out and away from their source which creates a large difference between the blurred image and the original image.

One option to reduce the halos would be to increase the blur radius. That would mix the dark and light pixels more creating a smaller difference between images but may create halos around larger objects. You could also try my Clarity and High Pass shaders which have a few blend mode options which may reduce the appearance of halos.

I played around with it, and the only issue I have is that the effect can be a little too strong even when using the lowest possible settings.

I can just make some changes to the shader myself to add another strength setting, but that may be something you'd want to consider doing on your next update.

You reminded me of two lines in the shader file that could be changed to reduce the sharpening.

#define sharp_strength_luma_G (CoefLuma_G * SharpStrength + 0.2)
#define sharp_clampG 0.035

In the fist line you can see that +0.2 is added to the SharpStrength, so even if its set to 0.00 in the settings file it will still be at 0.20. You can delete the +0.2 or use a negative value in the settings file.

The second line clamps the detail channel. Without a clamp I think the range of the detail channel is -0.5 to +0.5, so the clamp reduces the strength quite a bit already. But you can use a lower value to reduce it even more.

When I ported this to ReShade I wanted to keep it as close as possible to the original so people could use their old settings, but I think I will make some changes if I port it to ReShade 3.0. I'll definitely change the SharpStrength and make the clamp adjustable from the settings. And I think I will split the clamp in two, one for bright halos and one for dark halos. The bright halos are usually the most noticeable, so splitting the clamp in two would allow them to be reduced without reducing the effect in darker parts of the image.

I'm a bit confused as to hot to import this to reshade 19.0 but want to add this
to it, I really like gaussianblur to help with smoothing out Jaggies with along with the smaa :))

DO you just drop this fx file into the shaders folder inside of sweetfx folder
or do I put it into the reshade folder where sweet.fx and reshade.fx are ?

Do I have to edit anything in reshade folder also ? Much appreciated your help !
