thanks Courier. your Dead Space DOF preset worked quite well for me in Binary Domain (reshade.me/forum/shader-troubleshooting/...ield-dof-help-please)

(i have actually used Photoshop "Image -> Auto Tone" on these. just to fix some overall colouring that looked a bit washed out. Anybody know what the likely tweaks in MasterEffect would be as equivalent? thanks "It appears to me by the manual that Auto Tone does something similar to the auto option in levels and curves. It then explains since it adjusts each color channel individually, it may remove color or introduce color casts." (www.dpreview.com/forums/post/32513197) )

Also, you're welcome regarding that dof. I've been messing around with stacking two to three different dof presets at the same time so one affects the gun and the other affects the environment.
I'm sure that if I wrestle with it for an entire afternoon I can get something that's actually usable.

Here's some little mix.
First is Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising, from like 2009. The game crsahes when I use MSAA/SSAA for some reason, but I could manage to increase the resolution with SRWE and then capture a high res image with FXAA that could be downsampled a bit. Still has a ton of jaggies, shame on me.
Second is Aliens Vs Predator 2010 (using DX9, DX11 crashes to desktop using depthbuffer shaders). Some Magic dof, curves and a couple other things like a crazy CA setup. Dat invisible predator!
Third is Alien Isolation, DX11.

@TinchO looks interesting , but you need to improve luma - is too dark, especially the white & black point balance.

It was my intention make the game darker but you're right, the game looks a bit unbalanced. Thanks for the suggestion.

Look, this is the problem with Lens Dirt and Bloom (check the image below)
It's impossible to see something on the snow, for that reason i looked for a new texture a bit more "faint"

You could use photoshop and adjust the exposure and curves of the texture to increase the smudges while making the rest of the texture fainter.
That or follow the advice you gave me long ago, tweak the bloom further.
In Rainbow Six Vegas at some point with the bloom settings I was using looking at the sun caused a supernova of lens dirt.
